Next Best Action in banking: a checked decision
not a propensity list.
✓
One decision per customer, not one list per campaign
✓
Rules and constraints check every model output
✓
Every decision logged with its reasoning in an audit-proof way
First action measurable in six to eight weeks. Last updated: October 20, 2026

Why propensity alone is not enough
The score knows who. It does not know what, when, or whether at all.
Propensity models are a good start. Exported as a list and handed to the campaign, they lose three things that make a decision.
01 · No timing
A score of 0.71 is the same today as in three weeks. The signal that marks the moment, a maturity, a salary payment, a trip, is not in the list.
02 · No constraints
Open complaint, contact frequency, risk class, product eligibility, consent: everything that speaks against an offer is checked downstream by hand, or not at all.
03 · No reasoning
When the supervisor or the customer asks why this offer came, there is only a campaign ID. That is not enough for traceable reasoning.
The five building blocks
Next Best Action engine: from signals to decision.
Every decision passes through five stages. The models are one of them, not all of them.
Signals
Enriched transactions, product and contract events, app behavior, service contacts, consents. The context layer keeps identity, intent, permission and memory together per customer.
Models
Propensity, churn, customer lifetime value, channel preference, price elasticity. Trained on your data in your tenant, explainable and delivered with confidence scores.
Rules and constraints
Eligibility, risk class, contact frequency, open cases, fairness limits, mandatory disclosures. Rules can override model outputs and do so visibly.
Orchestration
Selection of offer, channel and timing, collision check against running campaigns, handover to app, push, email, advisor or service staff.
Measurement
Control groups per decision type, uplift instead of click rate, feedback of the reaction into models and rules. Every decision gets a record with its reasoning.
Diagram
Propensity list vs. Next Best Action.
Left: the export from the model. Right: the decision that reaches the customer. In between are rules, orchestration and a log.
From list to decision: the same models, a different result.
Use cases
Four decision types banks build first.
The entry point is one decision type with a clear KPI. The building blocks stay the same.
Cross-sell and Next Best Offer
Which product fits this customer now: credit card, savings plan, insurance, or nothing. Eligibility and consent first, propensity second.
KPI: products per customer
Maturity and reinvestment
A term deposit or savings contract expires: which follow-on offer fits, when is the right moment, and should the app or the advisor approach the customer.
KPI: reinvestment rate
Reactivation
Dormant card, declining logins, missing salary payment: which measure brings the customer back, and through which channel.
KPI: reactivated customers
Service moment
Not every Next Best Action is an offer. After a card block, the best action is information; after a complaint, a callback.
KPI: NPS after contact
Time to first action
Six to eight weeks to the first measured decision.
According to Personetics (2026), a new personalized offer takes 13 weeks on average. We shorten that by building signals, rules and measurement once and reusing them for every further decision type.
Weeks 1–2
Data and decision type
Data connection
transactions, products, CRM, consents
Decision type
one use case, one KPI, one control group
Rule set
eligibility, frequency, exclusions with business and compliance
Weeks 3–5
Models and orchestration
Models
training on your data, explainability, sign-off
Orchestration
connect channels, collision check, handover
Log
decision record with reasoning
Weeks 6–8
Live and measurement
Soft launch
partial population, control group, daily monitoring
Uplift
first measurement per decision type
Next type

Comparison
Propensity list, campaign tool or Next Best Action engine?
Three ways of working that coexist in banks. The difference is the unit of decision: segment or customer.
Customer with score
Segment
Customer with signal, timing, channel
Export date
Campaign plan
Event in real time or daily batch
Downstream, manual
Partly as filters
Rules check every result before delivery
Not included
Fixed per campaign
Per customer by preference and collision
Score
Campaign ID
Decision record: signal, model, rule, channel
Conversion of the list
Click and open rate
Uplift against control group per decision type
Campaign tools stay in place: they receive decisions from the engine instead of lists.
Data protection & security
Privacy is architecture. Built for regulated banking.
Data protection is architecture, not a feature. The platform connects to core banking, card processor, CRM and app and runs where your supervisor expects it to.
Privacy by design

No cross-tenant training
01
GDPR & DPA
A data processing agreement, purpose limitation and deletion concepts are part of every project, with a joint data protection impact assessment on request. Every use of customer data is tied to a documented purpose and a consent.
02
Hosted in Frankfurt
Private cloud in the ISO 27001 certified data center in Frankfurt, on-premise optional. Data stays in Germany.
03
PII filter before the model call
Personal data is detected and masked before a language model sees a request. No cross-tenant training: customer data only trains the bank's own models.
04
Tenant separation
Each bank runs in its own logically separated environment with its own keys, roles and logs.
05
SOC 2 Type I certified
ACCELERAID is SOC 2 Type I certified; the report is available under NDA. Audit-proof logging is standard.
06
Enterprise hosting
Enterprise hosting in the PCI DSS certified data center. The ISO 27001 and PCI DSS certifications apply to the data center.
Decisions only use data with a documented purpose and consent and run within defined rules. Automated individual decisions within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR are not intended; assessing individual processing activities is up to your data protection officer.
The agreed configuration, the contract and the related evidence, such as the SOC 2 Type I report, are authoritative.
